Study Abroad Italy • Visas
Student Visas All Study Abroad Italy (SAI) students are required to obtain a student visa.

For many Italian consulates, SAI offers visa processing services. The fee for this service is $250.00.

In order to assure a timely processing of visas, the student (or his/her parents on their child’s behalf) should begin the visa application as early as possible.

After acceptance into the program, each student should immediately print the SAI Student Visa Application Guidelines and the appropriate Consulate Visa Application from the links below.

Students not residing in the US should contact your nearest Italian consulate and follow the directions for obtaining a student visa. Students may request the necessary documents from our California office.

Students residing in the CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES and NEW YORK Consulate’s jurisdiction must apply directly to your respective Italian Consulate.  Please follow the instructions found under each Italian Consulate’s jurisdiction.

Study Abroad Italy will provide the necessary Letter of Acceptance from the Italian Institution, Study Abroad Italy’s Letter of Enrollment, Insurance Letter, and Course Schedule to complete your visa application materials. Student visas will be issued only for the length of time you are enrolled in the program.

We strongly recommend that students DO NOT wait until the holiday period (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter and so on) to go to the Consulate. During this time the Italian Consulates usually have special holiday hours. If you must go during your school break, please be aware that for those Consulates requiring an appointment it can be difficult to arrange one at this time.  Please plan and request your appointment early.

The visa will not be issued the same day; the process can take anywhere from 15 days up to 60 days.

Students residing or attending school in the BOSTON, D.C., DETROIT, HOUSTON, MIAMI, PHILADELPHIA or SAN FRANCISCO Italian Consulate's jurisdiction may be processed through Study Abroad Italy. The student will not have to go to the Consulate.
